Javier Arce

Javier Arce Bueno (Javier Arce)
Javier Arce's work is a reflexion on the evolution of art en modern society, its inevitable trivialisation and its reduction to merely decorative functions. He makes a critique of the emptying of content suffered by art, its conversion into a commodity and its serialisation, and puts forward a meditation on the new ways of perceiving and interiorising beauty.

"Libro Top Ten" is a (unique) book-file in which the content is a compilation of around 500 (unofficial) images taken from Google, Flickr and Facebook, taken with a digital camera or mobile phone by spectators at performances or temporal interventions by ten contemporary artists selected by Javier Arce. At a time when there is supposedly greater access to and democratisation of culture, Javier Arce investigates how the new way of producing art is being taken to viewers.

Using a selection of these digital snapshots he produced the series "Imágenes Bastardas", large format works engraved by hand on Perspex and glass.
