Paper Bridge Over Stone Water

by Przemyslaw Jasielski

During the six weeks long residency at Tokyo Wonder SIte I had designed and built entirely paper bridge. Apart from being the sophisticated sculptural object, it is an over 5 meters long fully functional construction. It's strong enough for people to walk on it and visitors will have the opportunity to do so.

The main inspiration for the project was Japanese tradition of using paper in architecture, but no less important was the meaningful symbolic of the bridge itself. The design of the object was based on the traditional bridge usually built at the entrance to the temple grounds. This project is a continuation of a series of works titled "Drawings Of Something Completely Else" exploring technical and architectural possibilities of transforming a page of paper.
