Observation Mission
by Coate-Goale
The installation is composed of a panoramic photography disposed around the exhibiting space. In a certain point the image is completed by a video projection live streaming from the place where the picture has been taken. The dimensions of the projection will be tailored to fit the rest of the static panorama.
The project starts off from a known scientific phenomenon called the observer effect. This term refers to the changes that occur upon the observed subject during the observation process. The observed usually behaves unnaturally. This effect is used by different media and it can be applied in science, information technology or social sciences.
Thus, the viewers can trace the effects produced by the presence of the video camera in an area where people usually act naturally. Their behaviour can be watched through video projection which forms part of the installation.
The aim of the observation mission can be extended outside the artistic area and thus it will bring in an experimental flavour.
