I: Agree / II: Demonstrate / III: Arrest
by Sophie Dvořák
For the work I: Agree / II: Demonstrate / III: Arrest, Sophie Dvořák reproduces pictures from daily newspapers, takes them out of contexts, places them in series and creates a montage of recurring motifs. Which information is lost through the excerpting and fragmenting, and what alternative conceptual possibilities might open up? Beatrice von Bismark describes the transfer of industrial mass production, among which one can also include the mass-media use of photography, into the medium of drawing with a „gain in uniqueness and liveliness...a linking to the gestural potential of the artist...which the object itself cannot promise.“
