Hilde de Bruijn

Freelance curator and curator at the Cobra Museum of Modern Art

Hilde de Bruijn is a curator and advisor in contemporary arts, tending to focus on artistic and discursive practices dealing with social and political issues. Between 2007 and 2010 she was Head of Exhibitions at SMART Project Space, Amsterdam. She was an advisor for the NL Film Fund, the Mondriaan Foundation and City of Utrecht. Partly due to her recent work for the Cobra Museum of Modern Art, she became increasingly interested in creating dialogues between historical and contemporary arts. Recent examples involve newly commissioned works for various exhibitions at the Cobra Museum by graphic designers duo Pinar&Viola, and artists Chad Burt, Hadassah Emmerich, and Esmé Valk, as well as the exhibition ´Nathaniel Mellors – The Nest´. De Bruijn’s main freelance project for 2012-13 is a curatorial research into the writings and thinking of Asger Jorn (1914-1973) which builds a starting point to re-think issues in contemporary artistic and discursive practices. Other projects in 2012: a curatorial contribution to the 5th Biennial of Young Artists, Bucharest and the co-editing of an artists´ book by Stefanos Tsivopoulos, with the artist and Alfredo Cramerotti.
