Residencies Exchange - II Curatorial Meeting Estampa Art Fair
The second edition of the Curatorial Programme of Estampa Art Fair 2017, curated and produced by hablarenarte:, focuses its attention on the field of art residencies. During three days, 24 directors and curators from European and North African residency programmes will meet and discuss about key issues of artistic production and mobility.
Within the field of the visual arts, the dynamizing role of artistic residency programmes is increasingly evident. The most important European and international art residencies are important hubs of transformation and internationalization in their local context. In Spain, despite significant advances in recent years and even though its prolific artistic scene, there are still only a few programmes specializing in the international exchange of artists and curators.
Faithful to the idea of a residency as a chance to rethink one’s own practice and to make a distinction between the urgent and the important, the three days of the “Residencies Exchange” in Madrid will be used more as a parlor, than as a symposium. The idea is to focus on the quality of prolonged, interpersonal talks and suggest, to meet in constantly changing, small groups for rather private discussions.
We consider that it is good practice to generate a space for exchange among peers in a relaxed and informal setting, talking about new ways to deal with the known issues in our field of work and to think together possible models of residencies and production centres. In a nutshell: we want to bring all those conversations that usually take place at the backdrop of the symposium to the centre of our meeting. We are looking forward to this atomized approach and hope that it will lead to a productive exchange.
With these aims we have invited the following professionals responsible of different artist in residency programmes from Europe and North Africa:
